Skip Bayless unloads on Titans for drafting Cam Ward over Shedeur Sanders

The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft is officially in the books. But for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the wait continues.

Despite early projections that had Sanders going within the top three picks—and in some cases, even No. 1 overall—the Buffaloes quarterback went undrafted on Day 1. That top spot ultimately went to Miami's Cam Ward, while the next quarterback taken was Jaxson Dart at No. 25 after the New York Giants traded back into the first round—a pick many believed was originally meant for Sanders.

"We all didn't expect this, of course," Sanders said. "I feel like with God, anything is possible. Everything is possible. I don't feel like this happened for no reason.

One of Sanders’ most vocal supporters, Skip Bayless, spent much of Thursday night advocating for the Colorado star in real time. As the picks rolled in and Sanders continued to slide, Bayless took to social media in a flurry of posts defending him.

“Skip Bayless has tweeted about Shedeur Sanders so many times in the last three hours, we are on the verge of restraining order territory,” USA Today Sports' Dan Wolken joked.

By the end of the night, Bayless had zeroed in on the Tennessee Titans, who passed on Sanders in favor of Cam Ward at No. 1 overall.

"THE TENNESSEE TITANS WILL FOREVER REGRET NOT TAKING SHEDEUR SANDERS," Bayless posted.

It didn’t come as much of a surprise when Tennessee made Ward the top pick, as Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi had indicated in the days leading up to the draft that the team planned to stay put at No. 1. Ward had become the runaway favorite in the final stretch of the pre-draft process.

While Ward’s draft stock surged over the last few months, the opposite happened for Sanders. The closer the draft came, the more his projections fell, with reports surfacing that painted a less-than-flattering picture behind the scenes.

According to one NFL assistant, Sanders had “the worst formal interview ever,” and was described as “entitled.”

Now, with the second and third rounds approaching, Sanders will look to turn the page and prove he’s still one of the most talented quarterbacks in the draft. The spotlight remains, even if the draft moment hasn’t arrived yet.
