Victor Wembanyama was compared to LeBron James by Fox Sports' Skip Bayless.
That's a good thing, right? Well, not in the insulting way Bayless used this comparison to align the San Antonio Spurs' 7-foot-4 superstar with the NBA's all-time leading scorer.
Bayless referred to the pair as the old and new faces of the NBA, and said they each lack the same thing, a clutch gene.
This is what Skip shared on X on Thursday:
It’s already becoming clear the New Face (Wemby) has this in common with the Old Face (LeBron) … no clutch gene. Late missed game-winners, missed crucial free throws, killer turnovers. Disappeared in last night’s second half: 0 blocks, 0 defensive rebounds. 1-9 career late/close
— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) June 11, 2026MORE: 'They can't believe' Knicks comeback to top all comebacks
Bayless' post follows the historic collapse of the Spurs on Wednesday night against the New York Knicks. The Spurs held a 29-point lead at one point, were up 27 at halftime, and were still up 15 at the start of the fourth quarter.
The Knicks came back to win.
Wemby was terrible down the stretch, too, including a couple of massive missed free throws.
Obviously, LeBron has won four rings, so this isn't totally fair. Bayless is an MJ truther and a James hater, so this post makes sense.
It's also not really fair to Wembanyama, who is in only his third NBA season, and who was awesome to dispatch the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Final.
Yes, Wemby needs to be better to lead a Spurs comeback in this series.
Bayless' critique may be just a bit harsh, though, which is surely what he was going for.
