The Philadelphia 76ers went into the preseason coming off of the offseason of their dreams, landing the likes of LeBron James in free agency, as well as capturing Jaylen Brown from their division foes, the Boston Celtics, who had long been a thorn in the team's side. But apart from those two marquee signings, the Sixers were busy adding some quality depth pieces to their bench, which includes Anfernee Simons.
Simons made his way to the City of Brotherly Love off a split season with the aforementioned Celtics, as well as the Chicago Bulls, before being sent to the Windy City at the trade deadline. Across the 55 games that he played last season, Simons averaged 14.3 points per game on 44 percent shooting from the field, meaning that Philadelphia got themselves quite the reliable option to come off the bench.
However, despite the Sixers getting ready to play their final preseason game on Friday night, the team hasn't gotten to see their new signing take to the court due to a hamstring injury.
But there have been some good signs from the Sixers' training camp regarding his health.
Simons' latest steps to return
Sixers say Anfernee Simons (hamstring) and Adem Bona (left foot) both practiced in full today but are out for tomorrow’s preseason finale vs. the Celtics.
— Noah Levick (@NoahLevick) October 15, 2026As reported by NBC Sports Philadelphia's Noah Levick, Simons was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
This might not sound like much off the bat, but when you take into consideration that Simons was only a partial participant on Wednesday, there are some clear shifts happening in his recovery process.
Despite this, it appears that Simons won't take to the court against his former team on Friday night, as he'll be listed as out.
The Sixers take on the Celtics on Friday night, with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. EST.
