Reigning champions France remain on course for a Six Nations Grand Slam after beating Italy 33-8 in Lyon.

Louis Bielle-Biarrey, Emmanuel Meafou and Thomas Ramos went over as Les Bleus raced into a 19-0 lead. Gael Drean scored the fourth try to make sure of a bonus point before Emilien Gailleton got in on the act.

On Saturday, Ireland ran in their record score at Twickenham to ensure more Six Nations pain for England before Scotland finished the day on top of the table.

The brilliant Jamison Gibson-Park set a five-try display in motion and Andy Farrell's side motored to a 42-21 victory in west London.

On the back of last weekend's defeat to Scotland at Murrayfield, the result effectively ends England's title hopes.

Gregor Townsend's side looked set to spurn that momentum as Wales opened up an early lead in Cardiff but the pressure told on the struggling hosts after halftime, when scores from Finn Russell, Darcy Graham and George Turner turned the tables.

Nevertheless, France responded authoritatively to show they remain the team to beat.

What is the Six Nations 2025 scoring system?

Four points are awarded for each win, two for a draw, and zero for a loss — but there are some bonus points up for grabs.

If a team scores four tries or more in a game, they are awarded a bonus point. Additionally, losing teams get a bonus point if their margin of defeat is seven points or fewer.

This means a winning team could take home either four or five points, while a losing team could earn zero, one, or two.

What is a Grand Slam in Six Nations?

There is another way to get bonus points on the board. If a team wins all five of their matches, thereby completing what is known as a 'Grand Slam', they are awarded three extra points. This has been achieved in 13 of the previous 25 editions of the Six Nations.

Ireland were on course for back-to-back Grand Slams before suffering a dramatic last-gasp 23-22 defeat to England at Twickenham in their penultimate match of the 2024 competition.

Six Nations rivalries, trophies, Triple Crown explained

For England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, a Triple Crown is achieved by winning all three of their games against the other 'home nations' from the British Isles.

There are also six individual rivalry trophies up for grabs, contested between the following teams:

Calcutta Cup: England vs. Scotland

Millennium Trophy: England vs. Ireland

Centenary Quaich: Scotland vs. Ireland

Giuseppe Garibaldi Trophy: France vs. Italy

Auld Alliance Trophy: Scotland vs. France

Doddie Weir Cup: Scotland vs. Wales

Cuttitta Cup: Scotland vs. Italy

Who has won the most Six Nations championships?

Including the Home Nations, Five Nations and Six Nations championships, England have won the most titles overall.

They have won the tournament 29 times (with a further 10 shared titles), ahead of Wales (28 wins, 11 shared titles).

In the Six Nations era, England and France are the most successful sides with seven trophies each, just ahead of Wales and Ireland on six. Scotland and Italy yet to win a title since the competition's modern format was introduced.
