Veteran analyst Jason Whitlock didn’t hold back in his criticism of DiJonai Carrington’s physical style of play following yet another controversial incident on Friday. Carrington, already under intense scrutiny from WNBA fans for several aggressive plays this season, came under fire again after she was caught on video yanking LA Sparks guard Sarah Ashlee Barker down by her hair.
The shocking clip went viral almost instantly, setting social media ablaze. Even the game announcers were stunned, with one remarking that if Barker had been wearing extensions, they might have been ripped out from the force of the pull.
Whitlock quickly weighed in on the viral moment, calling for serious disciplinary action. He urged the WNBA to take a firm stance by banning Carrington from the league, citing repeated instances of unnecessary and excessive physicality.
"Another "accident" from DiJonai Carrington," Whitlock tweeted. "She should be banned from the WNBA. But no one can dare ask a question about this pattern of behavior. It would be racist."DiJonai Carrington has already been assessed two flagrant fouls this season, yet surprisingly avoided a third after her physical play involving Sarah Ashlee Barker. Her first flagrant occurred during the season opener, when she struck Minnesota Lynx’s Jessica Shepard in the head.
The second came in Tuesday’s game against the Seattle Storm, where Carrington again made contact to the head, this time hitting Skylar Diggins on a fast-break attempt. Her consistent on-court aggression has led many fans to label her a “dirty player,” a criticism Carrington has firmly pushed back against with a strong and unapologetic response.
DiJonai Carrington has been Dallas Wings' best player
Despite the growing chatter around DiJonai Carrington being labeled a “dirty player,” the Dallas Wings guard has been turning heads with her standout performances on the court. The reigning Most Improved Player has quickly established herself as the team's top performer amid their ongoing struggles.
Over the last five games, Carrington has averaged 17 points and 4.4 rebounds, while continuing to be a disruptive force on the defensive end. However, her individual brilliance hasn’t translated into wins as the Wings remain at the bottom of the standings with a 1-8 record through nine games.
