Shocking video footage captured the moment an off-duty NYPD police officer takes the law into his own hands and opens fire on two suspected car thieves – with the cop now suspended.

The chilling scene unfolded shortly after 9 p.m. Monday in the Bronx, after the unnamed cop got in his SUV and followed men he believed were involved in stealing his car — with the officer seen walking up to their double-parked sedan in Kingsbridge and opening fire without warning, the video shows.

The driver then hops back in the sedan and speeds off to take the wounded men – one of them a 30-year-old who was hit in the head – to New York-Presbyterian Hospital. The off-duty officer hops back in his vehicle and pulls away, the video shows.

The victim is now listed in critical condition at the hospital.
