A new car for Shilo Sanders will have to wait.
The now-former Colorado defensive back was promised a new ride by his father Deion if he could run a 4.4-second 40-yard dash at the Buffaloes’ pro day.
It’s unclear whether Coach Prime meant a 4.4-flat or anywhere in the 4.40-4.49 range.
But it didn’t matter either way, as Shilo clocked in at 4.52 seconds.
While he didn’t end up reaching the mark that Deion wanted him at, the car was certainly an added motivator as Shilo looks to make a name for himself in the upcoming NFL draft.
Ironically, Shilo has been in the news for allegedly being past due for nearly $6,877 in payments on a 2023 Mercedes-Benz, USA Today reported.
According to the Associated Press, Sanders’ attorney, Victor Vital, said that Mercedes-Benz’s issues with Sanders were “due to disruptions in the payment process following the termination of Mr. Sanders’ online account access, a common occurrence in bankruptcy cases.”
While Shilo didn’t earn a new car with his 40-yard dash time, Deion refuted the Mercedes-Benz news and assured reporters at Colorado’s pro day that his son will still be riding around in the car he already has.
“I know some other bull junk came out [this week],” coach Sanders said. “But he fulfilled all his financial obligations.”
Shilo’s brother, Shedeur, projects to be a top pick in the draft while, for Shilo, it’s a very real possibility that he goes undrafted.
Colorado’s pro day was Shilo’s lone official opportunity to prove himself in front of scouts this offseason as he did not receive a 2025 NFL Scouting Combine invite.
