Will the inhabitants of Woodstone B&B be able to save Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) before Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh) kills him in Season 5 of Ghosts? Flower actress Sheila Carrasco won’t spill the beans on what happens in the premiere, but she will promise that it’s going to make you laugh.

Sitting down with DECIDER ahead of the Season 5 debut on October 16, the actress who plays the lovable 1960s-era hippie shared that after Season 4 ended with Jay accidentally signing over his soul to a demon, things pick right back up with a very worried group of ghosts.

“I think we’re all very concerned about Jay, the whole house, and we all really come together to try to save him,” the actress teased, adding that in typical Ghosts fashion, they will find the funny in things that feel anything but. “We get a lot of comedy from that.”

She isn’t kidding, but the show is.

A sneak peek from the first episode of Season 5 posted to the show’s Instagram page sees the ghosts coming together to fret over Jay’s fate, only to digress into their usual shenanigans, including a correction over Sam’s (Rose McIver) use of “Defcon 5,” as Pete (Richie Moriarty) aptly points out that “Defcon 1” is actually the most urgent. Take a look at the sneak peek below…

For Carrasco, having Ambudkar’s character live in a state of constant fear creates some of the best moments on the show and some of the best dynamics between characters. That includes characters who the fans don’t get to see as often, like Elias — Hetty’s (Rebecca Wisocky) devious and devilish ex-husband — and Patience (Mary Holland). It’s especially interesting as audience members have been waiting to see these two characters go up against each other.

“My favorite episodes are where the whole cast is together. And we definitely see Elias come back and we see Patience, they get to finally have a bit of a showdown,” Carrasco said. “I can’t say too much more, but it’s going to get pretty scary.”

Sadly, the actress could not share much more about the premiere episode itself, but did tell DECIDER that when it comes to Season 5, there is a lot in store for her own character. After four seasons of playing the not-all-there, somewhat high hippie of the estate, audience members at home are finally going to get to see a more sophisticated side to Flower in the fifth season.

“I am most excited for the fans to see more of the smarter side of Flower. That was a really fun thing to start exploring last year in Season 4. I think it’s going to be really fun,” she explained, adding that the fan service will also be there in the way of the holiday episodes, which she says are “really, really wild.” We’ll just have to wait and see!

The Season 5 premiere of Ghosts airs on CBS at 8:30/7:30c on October 16. New episodes air Thursdays and drop the next day on Paramount+.

Paramount+ offers two subscription plans. The ad-supported Essential plan costs $7.99/month, while the ad-free Premium plan (which comes with Showtime and live CBS) costs $12.99/month. New subscribers can take advantage of a seven-day free trial.
