Shedeur Sanders going undrafted chances predicted to be in play

If what has happened already is unbelievable, then the most unlikely outcome would have to be considered impossible.

But amid Shedeur Sanders' historic NFL Draft slide, it appears nothing is impossible.

There are still four rounds to go, more than 150 picks, plenty of time for someone to take Sanders.

But those in the know in the NFL are officially considering the possibility that Sanders goes undrafted.

Here's what The Athletic's Jeff Howe wrote on Saturday morning:

"Could he go undrafted? It's wild to think that's even a consideration, but it's impossible to rule out any outcome at this point. From what we can tell at The Athletic, teams have not taken Sanders off of their draft boards, so he should theoretically be called Saturday. But that he's waited this long to hear his name, it's clear teams have a lot to think about as they assess a potential future with Sanders."

This whole situation has been wild.

Even ESPN's Adam Schefter's TV broadcast hits during the second and third rounds had the league's top insider pulling at thin air trying to understand what was happening.

ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. had Sanders ranked as his QB1 and the No. 5 overall player on his board. Somehow, after 102 picks, that guy is still available.

Quarterback is the most important position in sports, and teams don't want to get it wrong.

Given Sanders' natural ability, he'll likely still be chosen Saturday. If he somehow went undrafted, it would allow him to pick a destination rather than be given one.

Financial considerations are in play, too, but Sanders is likely most worried about getting on an NFL team and getting a chance to prove himself.

If he were to go undrafted, talk about adding fuel to the fire.

Already, Sanders likely has enough ammunition to motivate himself for an entire NFL career.
