Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson hit with major disrespect ahead of 2026 NFL season

The Cleveland Browns had a disappointing 2025 season, and as a result, made some big changes this offseason. The team changed coaching staffs, has an almost entirely new offensive line, and added a few playmakers on both sides of the ball.

However, the biggest weakness on the roster hasn't really been addressed- quarterback. The Browns had an elite defense in 2025, and should again in 2026, but that won't matter much if the quarterback play is atrocious once again.

Shedeur Sanders has his believers, but Jarrett Bailey of SB Nation isn't one of them. In fact, Bailey thinks the Browns are in worse shape than any other team in the league at QB.

Browns named as worst quarterback room in NFL

The Browns are having a four-way battle at their starting quarterback spot. Sanders, who started over the final part of 2025, is competing against controversial veteran Deshaun Watson, fellow 2025 draft pick Dillon Gabriel, and 2026 draft pick Taylen Green.

Bailey recently attempted to build the worst NFL team possible, using the worst position groups. For quarterback, Bailey chose the Browns' QB room and offered the following analysis:

What an interesting bunch of apples the Browns’ quarterback room is. One apple has a very successful father apple, who is in the apple Hall of Fame. However, that apple has since grown sour in the eyes of many fans for how he portrays himself since becoming the head coach of an apple school. But there are many cult-like fans of that apple, and those people should be avoided at all costs.

Since 2022, amongst 77 quarterbacks to play 200 snaps, Deshaun Watson ranks 69th in success rate. Dillon Gabriel, the third apple of this bunch, ranks dead last in 77th. What an impressively inept collection of bad football and worse PR.

As Bailey mentioned, the Browns quarterback room seems pretty bad, to put it lightly. Sanders and Gabriel didn't exactly light the world on fire last season, and it's been years since Watson was an above-average passer.

The best-case scenario seems to be that Sanders takes a step forward with a new coaching staff. Todd Monken is a respected offensive mind, who had success with quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson, but there's no guarantee Sanders has the talent to make that leap.

But still, the worst quarterback room in the league? Well, it's hard to argue with that. Bailey chose the Arizona Cardinals as an honorable mention, and their room isn't much to get excited about either. Only time will tell, but it seems close to guaranteed the Browns will be on the hunt for a quarterback again next offseason.
