Ex-Crystal Palace boss to meet with AC Milan about managerial vacancy

AC Milan weren’t at their best in the 2025-26 campaign, finishing in fifth spot in the Serie A table, as their arch rivals won the Scudetto with 87 points. While their 70-point finish wasn’t ideal in the eyes of their fans, it was an improvement on where AC Milan finished in the year prior, slotting in at the 8th spot, meaning they’d be without European football for the upcoming campaign.

A return to European competition wasn’t enough for Massimiliano Allegri to save his job, as it was relieved of his duties by AC Milan in late May. This means that the team will have to look for their next manager, one who will take them into the Europa League.

The Italian side is interested in Oliver Glasner

It appears that they could look at the man who was in charge of the current Europa League winners, former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who exited the Premier League side at the conclusion of the season. As reported by The Daily Mail’s Luke Power and Simon Jones, the Italian powerhouse is slated to meet with Glasner in the coming days.

“AC Milan are set to meet Oliver Glasner with a view to appointing him as their next manager,” states Power and Jones.

The reported meeting will come after the Austrian’s two-year stint with the Eagles, one that saw him win both the Europa League,  the FA Cup, and the Community Shield. Prior to his time in the English top flight, Glasner had served at the helm of SV Ried and LASK in his native Austria, as well as Eintracht Frankfurt and VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

It’s worth noting that 51-year-old isn’t the only name being tied to the AC Milan vacancy, as it was previously reported by The Athletic’s James Horncastle that current United States Men’s National Team manager Mauricio Pochettino had met with the Italian side, amid his team’s preparations for the World Cup.

“U.S. men’s national team head coach Mauricio Pochettino met with representatives from Italian club AC Milan over its vacant head coach position,” states Horncastle. “The meeting took place last week ahead of the USMNT’s World Cup camp in Georgia, sources have told The Athletic.
