Shedeur Sanders breaks silence on NFL Draft slide out of first round

4 hours ago 1

Shedeur Sanders didn't attend the NFL Draft in Green Bay, and apparently that's a good thing.

The Colorado star QB slid all the way out of the first round after being a likely top-10 pick for most of draft season.

Sanders instead watched the draft with family and friends. He delivered a message to those gathered after not being picked in round one on Thursday and having to wait until Friday to hear his name called.

"We all didn't expect this, of course," Sanders said. "I feel like with God, anything is possible. Everything is possible. I don't feel like this happened for no reason.

"All this is is of course fuel to the fire. Under no circumstance did we know this was gonna happen. But we understand we're on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow's the day. We're gonna be happy regardless. Legendary."

That's a very composed message on what must've been a tricky night for Sanders and his family.

The ESPN broadcast kept showing its camera feed of Sanders' watch party, where the quarterback, his father and the rest of the family milled about a bit anxiously, waiting to see if anything would go their way.

Sanders didn't go at No. 3 to the Giants, or No. 9 to the Saints, or No. 21 to the Steelers.

When the Giants traded back into the first round to No. 25 but chose Jaxson Dart instead of Sanders, that's when the finality of the slide finally set in.

Even in Aaron Rodgers' famous slide, he only lasted until pick 24.

Sanders has to go to bed Thursday night not yet knowing his team.

The Browns pick No. 33 overall, the first pick of the second round, and could consider Sanders.

Teams also have all day Friday to try and negotiate a trade into that 33rd pick to make Sanders their own choice.

It can all still work out for Sanders. But on a night that was supposed to be triumphant, he instead had to deliver a somber message and display patience in the face of difficulty.
