Several NFL Games Featured Moments of Silence for Charlie Kirk

Since Thursday, six out of nine NFL games have taken time to offer a moment of silence in the wake of the brutal assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

After Kirk was murdered at a Utah college on Wednesday, Thursday night’s game kicked off the tributes with a moment of silence during the Green Bay Packers and Washington Commanders game.

Thursday’s moment of silence was preceded by an announcement informing fans, “The National Football League asks that you please join us in a moment of silent reflection following the murder of Charlie Kirk. The NFL condemns all violence in our communities. It will take all of us to stop hate. Thank you.”

According to Pro Football Talk, this was followed by five other teams, all of which published tributes to Kirk by the time of publication.

The Giants and the Cowboys held a moment of silence. The Rams-Titans, Patriots-Dolphins, the 49ers-Saints, and the Bills-Jets joined them.

The Seahawks-Steelers had a moment of silence for Craig Wolfley, who had died during the offseason, but not for Kirk. The Steelers, though, are flying their U.S. flag at half-mast at the stadium in honor of Kirk.

Games that did not hold a moment of silence for Kirk include the Browns-Ravens, Jaguars-Bengals, and the Bears-Lions.

Six more games are going on into the evening, and two on Monday for NFL Week 2.
