Liverpool boss Arne Slot could have as many as seven players missing for the Premier League home game against Leeds United on New Year's Day. The Reds have won their last three league outings.
Slot's side had a busy summer, bringing in a slew of reinforcements, but two of them won't be available for the Leeds clash. Leoni injured his ACL on his debut in September and is out for the season, while British record signing Alexander Isak (£125 million) is slated to miss at least two months after breaking his leg last month during the win over Tottenham Hotspur (as per Liverpool World).
The head coach said about the duo:
“Unfortunately, Giovanni Leoni, we won't see him this season, and Alex (Isak) is going to take a long time before we see him again. You can do the numbers (about) how much money that is and if you combine that with how much we've sold, that's maybe an interesting story to make.”Apart from Leoni and Isak, the Reds might be without Wataru Endo (ankle) and Joel Gomez (muscle), who missed training earlier in the week. Stefan Bajcetic and Jayden Danns are unavailable due to hamstring injuries, while Mohamed Salah is out on AFCON duty with Egypt.
Dominik Szoboszlai, though, will be available after being suspended for the 2-1 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.
Liverpool vs Leeds United: A few tidbits
Liverpool boss Arne SlotLiverpool have a significant 63-29 head-to-head lead over Leeds United following 124 clashes across competitions. That includes three wins in their last five league meetings with Leeds, losing one.
Their last clash was a 3-3 Premier League draw at Elland Road last month, with Leeds winning their last league match at Anfield 2-1 in October 2022. However, the visitors have never won consecutive league games at the home of the Reds.
Both sides are in decent recent form. While the Reds are unbeaten in six league games, winning four, including the last three, Leeds are unbeaten in five, winning two. Arne Slot's side, though, have won five of their last six New Year's Day Premier League matches, while Leeds have been victorious just once in six outings, losing twice.
