Claude Giroux and the Ottawa Senators seem like they want to get a contract signed.
But they aren't making any progress.
The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun reported that a deal just isn't getting closer at the moment.
"The Ottawa Senators had more talks Wednesday with Pat Brisson, the agent for pending UFA forward Claude Giroux," LeBrun writes. "It’s been a grind of a negotiation, by all accounts, on a one-year deal. I don’t sense Wednesday’s conversation produced the breakthrough the sides had hoped for, but the plan is to keep at it."
The Ottawa Citizen's Bruce Garrioch previously reported on what the money might look like in a deal with Giroux.
"Giroux’s next deal should have a base salary in the $3-million range plus achievable bonuses that could allow him to make between $4.5-to-$5 million," Garrioch wrote.

Maybe Ottawa and Giroux are out of step on the specifics between the base salary and the bonuses.
Giroux is 37 years old and just completed his 18th NHL season. He had 15 goals and 35 assists in 81 games for the Senators in 2024-25.
He's only missed one game total in three seasons with Ottawa.
He began his NHL career with 15 years in Philadelphia and a single season with the Florida Panthers.
Now, Giroux is trying to stick around in Ottawa. The Senators and their veteran forward just have to work out the contract disagreement.
