Senators, Brady Tkachuk predicted to part ways soon

Brady Tkachuk and the Ottawa Senators haven't had the season anyone wanted.

Could this be it? There's at least one NHL analyst out there who thinks they might part ways.

TSN's Jeff O'Neill grouped Tkachuk together with Auston Matthews in a new take, in which he thinks both might request trades this summer.

“It would not shock me if, at the end of this season, Brady Tkachuk and Auston Matthews said that’s probably enough for me," O'Neill said. "I’m not kidding you. Like it would not shock me if both of them said thanks but no thanks. Maybe it’s time to move on. And by the way, their tenures with their teams — that’s an eternity in sports. It’s not like they’ve been there for a couple of years. They’ve been there a long time, man. Auston Matthews has been here for 10 years. What’s Brady Tkachuk, seven or eight years in Ottawa? Yeah, it wouldn’t shock me if both of them said, ” Check please."

Tkachuk will have two more years remaining on his contract when this one concludes. This is the fifth year of a seven-year, $57.5 million deal.

With injuries limiting him a bit, Tkachuk has played 39 games this season, and he has 39 points (15 goals, 24 assists).

The 26-year old would obviously be a huge acquisition elsewhere if he did indeed end up asking out.

If Tkachuk rumors being, there will of course be links to his brother Matthew playing for the Florida Panthers, although it's not obvious the Panthers would be positioned to pull off such a trade.

It's certainly fascinating that this has been brought up at all. It'll be worth watching Tkachuk's morale as the season winds down in Ottawa, just in case he does really have thoughts of moving on.
