Sen. Tim Scott condemns Nancy Mace’s airport tirade: ‘Never acceptable to berate police officers’

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) rebuked Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) Tuesday after the congresswoman allegedly invoked the senator’s name during a profanity-laced tirade at a South Carolina airport last week.

Mace, who’s running to be the Republican nominee for governor in the Palmetto State, allegedly went off on police at the Charleston International Airport after an apparent mix-up over the color of the car dropping her off resulted in the lawmaker having to wait a few extra minutes for officers to escort her to her gate.

Mace has called the Charleston International Airport incident report “fake.” AP

“For reasons that are unclear, Rep. Nancy Mace invoked my name during and in the aftermath of her situation at the Charleston International Airport,” Scott wrote in a Facebook post

“So let me be clear on a number of points,” the senator continued. “I have used that airport since long before I was ever in Congress and every interaction I have had – without exception – has been positive.”

“The women and men of the airport police are professional, courteous, and go beyond the call of duty.”

During her entire escort to her gate, a “very irate” Mace berated the two police officers tasked with protecting her, “talking loudly using profanity at times for others to hear,” according to an incident report obtained by The Post.

At one point, Mace fumed, “Tim Scott would not be f–king treated this way,” one of the airport police officers wrote.

Scott said he is “grateful” for the extra security airport police provide him due to the “death threats” he’s received.

“I follow their lead, do what they ask, and respect the many responsibilities these officers have to balance,” the senator wrote. “I have gotten to know many of them personally and try to never miss a chance to express my gratitude.”

“Those who know me know that I do not use profanity – in public or private. It is never acceptable to berate police officers, airport staff, and TSA agents who are simply doing their jobs, nor is it becoming of a Member of Congress to use such vulgar language when dealing with constituents,” Scott added, criticizing Mace.

“Not only are these officers sworn to protect us, but we also take an oath to represent them. We work for them, not vice versa,” he continued.

“For those who want to invoke my name, please have the courtesy to note my actions and how I treat police officers, TSA agents, and fellow travelers with the respect they deserve.”

Mace shared surveillance footage on social media which she claimed showed her walking through the airport “professionally” and “respectfully.”

The Mace campaign criticized Scott for the Facebook post.

“I think it’s extremely rich that someone with a half dozen personal security detail is commenting on the safety of a woman,” adviser Clare Considine said in a statement.

On Monday, the congresswoman and gubernatorial candidate indicated that her lawyers are “examining EVERY LEGAL OPTION” in response to the airport incident.

Mace also posted purported surveillance footage from the Charleston International Airport on X which she claims shows her “walking through professionally, respectfully.”

“No inappropriate behavior whatsoever,” she wrote, calling the airport incident reports “FAKE.”
