Playing in the NFL is a dream come true for aspiring football players. However, for one wide receiver, there are bigger long-term dreams to pursue.

Chris Conley officially retired on Saturday after 10 seasons in the NFL. On his Instagram page, the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver announced that he’s hanging up his cleats.

"When I was a kid I wrote down a set of goals. On that list was 'Play 10 years in the NFL.' Now that this goal has been accomplished it's time to set sights on something new," Conley wrote.

“The past 10 years have been a dream. Getting an opportunity to play in the league was an honor, and whether it was catching touchdowns or blocking for them, I truly gave it my all… See you in the next dream.”

Conley played for five different teams, after he was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round in 2015. His best season was in 2019 when he caught 47 passes for 775 yards and five touchdowns with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Conley also played for the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans during his decade-long career.

The wide receiver featured in only 10 games in his last two seasons with the 49ers, but he played in the 2023 Super Bowl. He had one catch for 18 yards and made multiple plays on special teams. His Niners wound up losing to his former team, the Chiefs 25-22 in overtime.

Chris Conley’s next dream

Chris Conley alluded to pursuing another dream in his retirement post, and that is becoming a filmmaker.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirmed on Saturday that he’ll be returning to the University of Georgia to attend film school.

"Conley is heading to film school back at UGA to pursue dreams of being a film maker. So cool," Rapoport tweeted.

Before he entered the NFL, Conley played four seasons with the Bulldogs, recording 1,938 yards receiving and 20 touchdowns.

Georgia is recognized as a top film school, ranking in the top 50 in the country by The Wrap, a leading media and entertainment industry publication. That is quite the achievement, as the UGA MFA Film Program was only established in 2020.
