Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills' hopes of winning the AFC East took another hit on Thursday, as the Houston Texans defeated them 23–19. Allen threw two interceptions in the game and got sacked a career-high eight times by the formidable Texans defense. He also failed to throw a touchdown pass.

Tensions boiled over in the fourth quarter when running back James Cook was stopped for a two-yard loss on a fourth-and-one attempt. The reigning NFL MVP was also visibly irritated. Clearly frustrated, Allen was seen screaming, "What are we doing?" while sitting on the bench next to backup quarterback Mitch Trubisky, even smashing his helmet in frustration.

Bills Insider Nick Veronica tweeted on Thursday that Allen is approaching "Ken Dorsey-level frustration" and then implied that someone might be in danger of losing their job.

Without naming anyone directly, Veronica noted that "seats are getting hot," potentially signaling pressure on offensive coordinator Joe Brady or coach Sean McDermott.

McDermott and Brady received harsh criticism from Bills fans for not effectively using their offensive weapons following the Thursday Night Football game. Some fans even urged the team to fire them. Brady, in particular, has received criticism for his questionable play-calling, which fans believe is putting too much pressure on Allen.

It will be interesting to see whether an offseason split between the Bills and their offensive play-caller is imminent given the frustrations that are growing every week.

The Bills' season record is now 7-4 after the loss, and their chances of beating the New England Patriots to the AFC East title are dwindling. However, they are still expected to qualify for the playoffs, as they currently occupy the No. 6 seed in the AFC.

Sean McDermott admits that the Texans have to look for ways to protect Josh Allen better

Josh Allen's eight sacks on Thursday night marked his career-high total of sacks taken in one game in the NFL. While speaking to reporters following the game, Coach Sean McDermott said that Allen's frequent hits are detrimental to the team's chances of being successful.

"They had 12 hits on Josh, eight sacks," McDermott said. "That's not a healthy formula right there. It's not a healthy way to play or a healthy way to keep our quarterback healthy through the remainder of the season. That's where the hits come, second down and long turns into third down and long, and that's the unhealthy formula I'm talking about, and Josh takes too many hits. So we've got to figure that piece out."

To keep their postseason hopes alive, the Bills must prioritize their quarterback protection, as they face the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals in their next two games.
