Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton stoked the New England Patriots rivalry with his "two weeks" quote before the AFC Championship game.
And it backfired, with Mike Vrabel's team winning 10-7 at Empower Field at Mile High to advance to the Super Bowl.
Payton, earlier in the week, stated he wanted the fans to be loud on Sunday and then said that they will have two weeks to rest their voices. Implying the Broncos would win and be Super Bowl-bound.
Well, now it is Payton and Denver who have months to rest as their season is over, and the Patriots have a shot at Super Bowl glory.
Payton gave New England extra motivation, and who knows, maybe it did play a role in the win.
Maye does something Tom Brady couldn't in Denver
With Drake Maye advancing to the Super Bowl after beating the Broncos in Mile High, according to CBS's Jim Nantz, Maye did something even Tom Brady hadn't done -- win on the road in Denver.
Nantz stated on the broadcast that Brady was 0-3 on the road in Denver.
Well, Maye is 1-0 and is on track to win the Super Bowl.
The game wasn't pretty, but Maybe and Co. did enough to get the win and advance, even as the snow and wind wreaked havoc all game.
And you can bet that Vrabel will bring up Payton's "two weeks" comments in the locker room.
