Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
Which means that San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan should feel flattered on Sunday. Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay took a page out of Shanahan's playbook.
Late in the first half of the NFC Championship Game, Matthew Stafford threw a touchdown to running back Kyren Williams to give the Rams a 13-10 lead on the Seahawks.
Social media quickly chimed in that they've seen this before. Shanahan has run this play for Christian McCaffrey to get the ball.
"Great play design by LA," wrote ESPN's Louis Riddick on X. "Same design that San Francisco used against Indianapolis with McCaffrey Actually it’s very easy to lose track of the RB and pick him up releasing into the opposite flat if you are in zone coverage. A lot of traffic/bodies to sort out in a short amount of time."

The Rams then got a stop in less than 30 seconds, so it was a great sequence for Los Angeles near the end of the first half.
McVay could've come up with a play like this himself, of course.
But it makes sense for the best offensive minds to keep an eye on what each other is up to.
In this case, that means McVay broke out a 49ers special, and it worked to perfection.
