The Denver Broncos have had one of the most unique free agency hauls in NFL history, at least through the first week of the 2026 signing period.
The team has handed out several contracts, but not one of them has gone to a player outside the organization yet. This has led to a part of the fanbase ready to explode with frustration, while other members of Broncos Country are relaxed and trusting the full process.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton is not willing to stop there, however. On Thursday, the team officially announced that former wide receiver Willie Snead will join the coaching staff as an offensive quality control coach. Snead played for Payton for a number of seasons as a member of the New Orleans Saints.
Willie Snead joins Broncos' coaching staff
Snead went undrafted out of Ball State in 2014, starting his career with the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers before latching on with the Saints later that season and beginning the most productive stretch of his career.
He played 11 seasons in the NFL for seven different franchises and had 281 receptions for 3,445 yards and 16 touchdowns. This will be his first coaching role in any capacity.
But that should not be looked at as a negative. Snead earned a significant role on Payton's squads by being a grinder, a player willing to do the little things, such as blocking as a receiver. He wants him to now bring that knowledge and experience to this Broncos team.
With this move, the Broncos' caoching staff for the 2026 season is complete.
