Dawn Richard Testifies Usher Witnessed Sean "Diddy" Combs Punch Cassie Ventura
Another day, another famous name mentioned in the Manhattan courtroom where Sean "Diddy" Combs is on trial.
From lawyers gauging the jury pool's familiarity with the likes of Michael B. Jordan and Kanye West—neither of whom are implicated in the case—to Combs' former assistant testifying May 20 that the Bad Boy Entertainment mogul had a pill stash that included a set with former President Barack Obama's face on them, a number of celebrities have been name-dropped over the last few weeks.
Meanwhile, some stars who once socialized or worked with Combs—who has pleaded not guilty to racketeering conspiracy and two counts apiece of sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prosecution—or have otherwise been linked to him, erroneously or not, have expressed their wish to be excluded from this narrative.
"Mr. Carter has nothing to do with Mr. Combs’ case or Mr. Combs," Jay-Z's attorney said in December after the rapper was named in a since-dropped lawsuit accusing him of rape, an allegation he vehemently denied. And after Internet memes alluded to an association with Combs, Will Smith told a concert audience around that time, "I don't have s--t to do with Puffy....I ain't been anywhere near no damn 'freak off.'"
But considering how long Combs has been in the public eye and the number of people who've crossed his path, the court transcript now includes a number of bold-faced names, not even including prosecution witnesses such as Cassie Ventura and Dawn Richard.

Jury selection began May 5 and the prosecution started presenting its case May 12. The trial is expected to last anywhere from eight to 10 weeks.
While it remains unclear exactly why West made the list of more than 100 people and places presented to potential jurors at the start of the trial (though he is among the few celebs who've publicly defended Combs, posting "Free Puff" on X in February), Jordan did come up during Ventura's testimony.
See what she had to say about the actor and which other celebrities have had unwitting cameos during the Combs trial:

Michael B. Jordan
Michael B. Jordan was one of several noticeable names on a list of more than 100 people and places presented to potential jurors at the start of jury selection for Sean "Diddy" Combs' trial on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. (He has pleaded not guilty to all.)
While the Creed star isn't implicated in Combs' case and, according to multiple outlets, is not on the witness list, he has since come up during testimony.
Combs' ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura testified under cross-examination May 15 that Combs suspected she was seeing somebody else in the entertainment industry while she was shooting a movie in South Africa in 2016. When asked who the person was, Ventura named the actor.
On the stand May 19, former Ventura friend Kerry Morgan testified that Combs didn't like that Ventura had spent time with Jordan.
"What I remember was that she was speaking to Michael B. Jordan and they hung out together," Morgan told the court. "And he was jealous of it."
Jordan's rep did not return a request for comment.

Usher
Danity Kane alum Dawn Richard testified May 19 that Usher was among the people at a West Hollywood, Calif., restaurant who witnessed Combs punch Ventura in the stomach in 2010.
“They were having a private conversation, and he punched her in the stomach," Richard said. "She immediately leaned over and left.”

Ne-Yo
Ne-Yo was also at the restaurant when Combs' punched Ventura, Richard testified, as were Big Daddy Kane and record executive Jimmy Iovine.

Kid Cudi
Ventura testified that she broke up with Kid Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, in 2011 after Combs reacted violently when he found out she was seeing the "Erase Me" rapper and threatened both of them.
“I just remember him putting a wine opener between his fingers," she said of Combs' initial reaction, "and lunging at me."
Ultimately, there was "too much uncertainty if we continued to see each other,” Ventura testified. “Sean said he was going to hurt the both of us.”

President Barack Obama
Combs' former assistant David James testified May 20 that his ex-boss often carried around “25 to 30” undisclosed pill bottles, including a set of pills that had former President Barack Obama's face on them.

Mike Myers
Potential jurors were asked their familiarity with more than 100 people and places, including Mike Myers.
It's still unclear why the Austin Powers star made the list—except that in Austin Powers: Goldmember, after Dr. Evil has spent time in prison it's revealed that he has an "E Diddy" tattoo on his behind.

Lauren London
The late Nipsey Hussle's partner Lauren London was also on the list of 100-plus people and places.
The actress has talked before about Combs' support for her after Hussle was murdered in 2019.
At Hussle's funeral, London recalled on a July 2022 episode of the Angie Martinez IRL podcast, "Puff pulled me aside and was like, 'Look, boo. You have shown everybody what it looks like to hold a man down and to love him. Now show them what it looks like when it all crumbles. That's your responsibility.' He was like, 'Show up with your head up.'"

Suge Knight
David James testified May 20 that Combs once put three guns in the car and told James to drive him to a Mel's Diner in L.A. for a meeting with Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight.
As they approached the diner with one other person in the car, James said, he realized there were three of them and three guns. "It was the first time I realized my life was in danger,” he said. Knight was gone, James continued, but Combs had him drive around the block to look for him.
Asked by Combs' attorney why he agreed to go to what he thought might be a potential shooting, James replied, "I didn’t think I had the option to say something.”
Forever connected in East Coast vs. West Coast lore, Knight has denied having anything to do with the 1997 murder of Combs' friend and Bad Boy Records artist Notorious B.I.G., which followed the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur, who was fatally shot while riding in a car with Knight. (Both killings remain unsolved.)
Knight is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence for a fatal 2015 hit-and-run, having pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in 2018.

Yung Miami
Yung Miami, whose real name is Caresha Brownlee, was on the big list run by potential jurors, as well.
The rapper, who dated Combs off and on between 2021 and 2023, has said that she can't speak to the abuse he's been accused of in lawsuits and the criminal charges filed against him in 2024. (Combs has pleaded not guilty to all and, while he's admitted to domestic violence, he has denied ever engaging in nonconsensual sexual activity.)
“I can't speak on something that wasn't my experience," Miami said on an August 2024 episode of her REVOLT series Caresha Please. I can't speak on something that I don't know. I can't speak on these allegations because I wasn't around at the time. I don't know that person, and that wasn't my experience.”

Kanye West
Also on the list: Kanye West, one of the few celebrities to explicitly express support for Combs since Ventura first accused her ex of sexual and physical abuse in a 2023 lawsuit, triggering a flood of litigation and ultimately criminal charges. (Combs settled the suit—for $20 million, Ventura testified May 14—but his attorney stated at the time that the settlement wasn’t an admission of wrongdoing.)
"FREE PUFF," West wrote on X (formerly Twitter) Feb. 6, invoking one of Combs' former monikers, then added in a separate message, "PUFF WE LOVE YOU."
Insinuating the prosecution of Combs was part of a larger conspiracy, West also wrote on X, "My support of Puff is completely selfish I need to find whoever been trying to out Black moguls."
In March, the song "Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine," a Combs song also featuring West and daughter North West, dropped on X.
The track was deleted the following day, and West alleged that ex-wife Kim Kardashian had tried to block the tune's release. (She did not respond to a request for comment at the time.)
