The Seattle Seahawks made the trip to face the Los Angeles Rams in the biggest matchup of the year for both teams. With both at 7-2, the winner would get to 8-2, have the NFC West lead, and a big tie-breaker for playoff seeding.
Unfortunately, the Seahawks wound up losing 21-19 in a close game. One of the big reasons why the Seahawks wound up losing was Sam Darnold. He threw four interceptions, something he's only done once in his NFL career.
The last time he did that? As BR Gridiron points out on Twitter/x, it was when he was with the New York Jets back in 2019, during his now infamous "seeing ghosts" game against the New England Patriots.
Sam Darnold spooked vs. Rams, echoes 'seeing ghosts' performance
Darnold had his worst performance since joining the Seahawks. He went 29/44 for 279 passing yards, no touchdowns, and four interceptions in the 21-19 loss.
Back in 2019, Darnold was up against the Patriots in New York and had one of his worst performances of his career. He went 11/32 for 86 passing yards, no touchdowns, and four interceptions.
After another turnover, Darnold returned to the Jets bench and said, "I'm seeing ghosts," which was caught on the microphone he was wearing as part of the mic'd up segment.
It instantly went viral, and ever since then, Darnold has always been associated with the quote. The last two years, it's not been an apt description for Darnold, as he revived his career with the Minnesota Vikings, and he continued to impress with the Seahawks.
But, just like what happened in the playoffs in 2024, Darnold struggled against the Rams and reverted to his "seeing ghosts" version of himself.
His four interceptions tied his career high from that infamous "seeing ghosts" game back in 2019. While he's impressed this season for Seattle, this performance is cause for concern.

Darnold has had some issues with turning the ball over this season. Through 10 weeks, he has 10 interceptions. 40% of those interceptions happened against the Rams, but considering the Rams are the Seahawks' biggest competition, this is a big concern.
This isn't the first time that the Rams have spooked Darnold, but it's the first time he's reverted to "seeing ghosts" since that infamous Jets-Patriots game back in 2019.
Darnold is still a high-quality quarterback, but he can't continue to turn the ball over like he has so far this season. At 7-3, the Seahawks are still in good shape for the playoffs, and even have a chance at the NFC West.
But if Seattle wants to win the West, Darnold can't be "seeing ghosts" anymore. He's shown he's more than capable of leading a playoff team, and as long as he isn't spooked, he should be more than good enough for Seattle to go on a playoff run.
