Kenneth Walker had a career season in a contract year with the Seattle Seahawks in 2025 and has set himself up for a major payday this offseason.
After tallying a career high in scrimmage yards (1,309) and earning Super Bowl MVP honors, Walker will hit free agency and should cash in.
Retaining Walker will be a bit challenging for Seattle, especially due to his elite play in the postseason with two 100-yard rushing performances. However, CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones believes it's more likely than not that Walker remains with the Seahawks.
"The Seahawks have plenty of cap space, but both sides may struggle to immediately agree on an extension after this playoff burst. Has he earned a Josh Jacobs- or James Cook-type deal worth $12 million per year? Or does GM John Schneider opt for the one-year, roughly $14 million tag? Either way, after the past few weeks, there is little doubt Walker will remain in Seattle," Jones wrote.
According to Over the Cap, Seattle is slated to have $72 million in cap space this offseason, meaning they have plenty of money to re-sign Walker if they want to.
Walker is projected to land a $36 million contract over four seasons, per Spotrac. That would be an average annual value of $9 million.
The franchise tag is also an option for the Seahawks if they can't reach a long-term deal with Walker.
However, Seattle general manager John Schneider has used the franchise tag just twice in 15 years with the Seahawks, so history says it's unlikely he slaps the tag on Walker.
We'll see whether the Seahawks are able to re-sign Walker, as it will be a tough negotiation after the star running back's stellar playoff outings. But based on the rumor from Jones, another year of Walker in Seattle is a very realistic possibility.
