Steelers, Vikings, Dolphins, Jets named top landing spots for former $150 million AFC Pro Bowl quarterback

The Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings, Miami Dolphins, and New York Jets are among the potential suitors for a veteran quarterback who may unretire for the 2026 season.

NFL.com's Nick Shook believes the Steelers, Vikings, Dolphins, and Jets should pursue Derek Carr to fill their starting quarterback position in 2026 if he returns to the NFL.

Carr is reportedly considering coming out of retirement to play football again if the right opportunity presents itself. The 34-year-old last played a game in December 2024 with the New Orleans Saints.

Though Carr has been out of the league for a season and is getting older, he could still be a solid bridge starter for a franchise. The last time we saw him, he posted a 5-5 record with 15 touchdowns and just five interceptions, along with a 67.7% completion rate.

Pittsburgh could be in the market for a new starting quarterback if Aaron Rodgers retires, and Carr could emerge as an option for Mike McCarthy's squad.

Minnesota is looking to add veteran quarterback competition for J.J. McCarthy this offseason. Carr could fit as the starter in Kevin O'Connell's offense for a few seasons as McCarthy develops.

Miami and New York are back in the quarterback market, as both teams are expected to move on from their Week 1 starters from 2025, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Fields.

Carr would step in as the starter for both franchises and could get them back on the right track as a savvy veteran signal-caller who takes care of the ball.

Though Carr could garner some interest, a team would likely have to give up draft capital to the Saints for the four-time Pro Bowl. It could be worth it for quarterback-needy teams, such as the Steelers, Vikings, Dolphins, and Jets.
