Trade speculation has been swirling around Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker this offseason, and for good reason.
While he's supremely talented, Walker is also entering the final year of his rookie contract and is coming off a season in which he struggled through injury.
Also, the thought is that the Seahawks have an in-house replacement already in Zach Charbonnet, who has shown plenty of flashes over two years in the NFL.
One analyst who believes Walker could get traded is Last Word on Sports' Anthony Palacios, who predicts the former second-rounder will land with the reigning AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of depth themselves this upcoming 2025 season, even though they could use another running back. However, Isiah Pacheco’s job is on the line, and with the team bringing back veteran Kareem Hunt for at least one more year, the Chiefs could look for more sustainable backfield pieces to help quarterback Patrick Mahomes. After drafting Brashard Smith, he isn’t going to see the field unless he impresses the scouts enough for a potential No. 3 spot, but they have free agent signing Elijah Mitchell in that position.
Walker would come off as cheap and provide a lot of stability for the Chiefs. It’s never a bad time for the team to consider more guys to run the ball since they already have some type of questionable pass catchers on the roster. It won’t hurt to trade for Walker at the right price, and the Chiefs should be on top of the list in their situation.
The Chiefs already have a pretty crowded situation at running back, with the team sporting Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt and Elijah Mitchell. However, all three backs come with a concern, as Pacheco and Mitchell have had issues staying healthy and Hunt didn't look great last season and is about to turn 30.
Walker is a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands and he's capable of taking it to the house from anywhere on the field. Adding him to an offense that includes Patrick Mahomes and is coached by Andy Reid would no doubt be intriguing.
That said, it's hard to envision the Chiefs giving up what should be a Day 3 pick for a running back who could depart in free agency next offseason, especially when the team already has a solid trio of backs.
When it comes to the Seahawks trading Walker, they might be better served waiting until the trade deadline. Walker's stock is not very high right now and they might be able to fetch a lot more for him at the deadline if he can bounce back in 2025.
