The Seattle Seahawks have a new injury concern with a key player ahead of the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
That key player is safety Nick Emmanwori, who suffered an ankle injury in practice on Wednesday.
Emmanwori was listed as limited on the team's official injury report, which is typical for a player who suffers an injury in practice.
"The rookie safety injured his ankle while defending a pass late in practice. He walked off the field on his own shortly before 4 p.m. Several players and coaches went over to comfort him before he left," ESPN's Kalyn Kahler reported.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Emmanwori is now set for imaging on his ankle to determine the severity. As of right now, his status for Sunday is up in the air.
"As the report details, he’ll have imaging to make sure it’s nothing major," Rapoport reported.
The most troubling part about Kahler's report is teammates going to Emmanwori to console him. That makes us worry that the rookie safety might have an injury serious enough to keep him from playing in the Super Bowl.
It goes without saying how troubling this is for the Seahawks, as Emmanwori has been a key member of Seattle's elite defense in what has been a strong rookie campaign for him.
We would expect to get some kind of update on Emmanwori's status on Thursday, and quite possibly before the Seahawks drop their next injury report.
