Seahawks get bad news on bringing back Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker

The Seattle Seahawks are in a bit of a bind.

It could cost them the Super Bowl MVP.

Kenneth Walker stole the show in Seattle's win over the New England Patriots to claim the Lombardi Trophy.

Now, though, he's a free agent. And bringing him back might not be as easy as Seahawks fans would like.

Walker could be franchise-tagged, but that is unlikely, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"It’s unlikely the Seahawks will use their franchise tag running back and Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker, per league sources," Schefter wrote on X on Tuesday morning. "The Seahawks have multiple free agents they want to retain and sign. They also will try to extend WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba. There are enough Super-Bowl tax costs that now make using a franchise tag this off-season unlikely."

For starters, the franchise tag for running backs is likely a little too rich for what Walker's true value is.

There's also the matter of RB contracts in the modern NFL in general. Except for the very best guys, it can be tough to reach agreements on fair compensation at a position that sees a lot of turnover each and every season.

And then, as Schefter writes, there's only so much money to go around.

A JSN extension will cost the Seahawks a fortune, and they've got to figure out which of their pending free agents they want back.

Walker played a great game in the biggest game of his life, but that doesn't guarantee him anything, especially as a running back in the year 2026.
