It's not obvious that anyone saw this coming.
But the Seattle Seahawks have released tight end Noah Fant, according to NFL Network.
The former first-round pick was due for a cap hit of $13.4 million this season, so it seems like a clear cost-saving move.
Seattle must also feel great about its rookie tight end out of Miami, Elijah Arroyo.
Fant appeared in 14 games this past season for the Seahawks, catching 48 passes for 500 yards.
He spent three seasons in Seattle, missing just three games total as a reliably available contributor. In those three seasons, Fant caught 130 passes for 1,400 yards and five scores.

Before that, Fant had spent three seasons with the Broncos, the team that drafted him. His 2020-21 seasons with the Broncos averaged 65 catches and 671.5 yards per campaign.
Fant won't turn 28 until November, so he seems like he should still be an NFL contributor somewhere.
It just won't be in Seattle.
