Seahawks announce Sam Darnold news for Commanders game

Coming into Week 3 of the NFL season, there was a question about whether Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold would be ready to take the field following his injury.

Darnold was injured in Week 1 with a hip injury. He wasn't able to take the field in the team's game in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals, but Seattle still took home a win.

Now, Darnold is officially off the team's injury report and ready to play on Sunday.

Sam Darnold is officially ready to return for Week 3

Grant Gordon of the NFL's website shared the good news on Friday, stating that Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said during his news conference that Darnold officially has no injury designation and will play Washington.

Just hours before, Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba let the cat out of the bag and basically said that Darnold would be back while appearing on "The Rich Eisen Show."

So, it was trending in this direction for a while, but it still feels good for Seahawks fans to see Darnold off the injury report and ready to play.

While Darnold was out, backup Drew Lock filled in for the Seahawks, and he put on a show. He notched 19-of-26 passes for 235 yards during the team's win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 20, also collecting three touchdowns and no interceptions in the 31-7 victory.

If Darnold wasn't cleared for this game, it was believed he would at least be back for the team's Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers at home on Oct. 4. But head coach Mike Macdonald and the medical staff believe Darnold is healthy enough to take over again now, so the sooner, the better. Seattle really avoided a disaster if this had been a long-term or season-ending injury.
