Nico DeSalvo went ahead and made his college decision official recently. The Southeast Polk High School wrestler has committed to compete for Minnesota.
DeSalvo, who will be a junior for the Rams in the fall, has won state championships as a freshman and sophomore. He is halfway to adding his name to an elite list of four-time state champions in Iowa.
Along with his two high school titles, DeSalvo was third at Fargo in 16U freestyle in 2023 and finished third at the USAW's Preseason Nationals before the start of last season.
DeSalvo is expected to slot in at 125 pounds for Minnesota as part of the Class of 2027. Currently, the Gophers have a handful of commits for the Class of 2026 but none are around the 125-pound weight class, according to Intermat Wrestle.
Southeast Polk will be looking to defending its Class 3A state traditional and dual team titles this coming winter. The Rams had 10 quarterfinalists last year in winning their seventh consecutive traditional team title.
