By now, you’ve maybe seen the news about South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker weighing in on President Donald Trump’s penis, which they depicted in their season 27 premiere Wednesday night.
The duo addressed the controversy (which sparked a White House response) Thursday night at the adult animation panel at San Diego Comic-Con, held in the famed Hall H. It was covered by entertainment news heavyweights like The Hollywood Reporter, after all. Essentially, the network asked them to blur their depiction of Donald Trump’s penis, and they said no but we’ll put eyes on it. You know, that classic story.
But what may have been lost in that shuffle is that the duo also teased a potential crossover with the long-running animation property of one of their fellow panelists — that being Mike Judge, and Beavis and Butthead.
In fact, the three of them said they had even discussed a crossover many years ago, during the early breakout years of South Park, going so far as to develop the storyline: Cartman needs a babysitter, and his babysitter ends up being Beavis and Butthead.
So hey, who knows? Maybe when the political news cycle has progressed (if it hasn’t already), the lasting legacy of this panel will be that it sparked these animation industry heavyweights to rekindle this long dormant idea. It would seem that corporately the time might be right, with both shows now appearing on the same network (Comedy Central).
Oh, and also Andy Samberg was on the panel, promoting the second season of his own animated series, Digman! (shout-out Quade Army).
