Never make assumptions based on a patient’s appearance!

In this DECIDER exclusive clip from the third episode of the Scrubs revival, J.D. (Zach Braff) — newly back at Sacred Heart and taking over the position of Chief of Medicine from Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) — is trying to teach his interns about

“There was nothing more fun than rounding with my interns, especially when I had a curveball,” J.D. says via voiceover as he walks up to an elderly patient with Sam (Ava Bunn), Blake (David Gridley), and Asher (Jacob Dudman) and asks for the differential diagnosis on a man with dysuria, a.k.a. painful urination.

“His urinary pain could be caused by kidney stones,” says Sam as Blake and Asher suggest urethral strictures or prostatic hypertrophy, or a swelling in the prostate glands.

To that, J.D. swoops in to spike the ball and remind this next generation of doctors that things are not always as they seem.

“All great guesses and supes wrong. Brace yourself: It’s chlamydia. These days, they are turning it in at the old folks home like it’s Burning Man,” he says as his interns look confused and a little disgusted. “Ew, wait, is that why my grandma doesn’t want me to visit?” Sam asks.

ABC also released a description for Wednesday night’s episode, which reads: “Elliot faces a dilemma with a stubborn patient, while J.D. discovers online doctor reviews. Meanwhile, Turk teaches his interns about new surgical technology and unexpected life lessons.”

There are a lot of changes happening at Sacred Heart with J.D. back, Dr. Cox retiring, and the cast we know and love from the original series, albeit grown-up versions. It’s a combination of those factors that made Braff and his co-stars interested in signing on in the first place.

“I think it’s exciting to see what they’re like now,” Braff told DECIDER. “How do we still maintain that same humor, which Donald and I, as very silly best friends, naturally have even still at our age, but also show an evolution that they’re not 25-year-old kids. They are great teachers, they are great leaders. And I was interested in exploring what that would be like.”

Fans will have to wait and see how that continues to unfold throughout Season 1.
