The Seattle Seahawks are in the Super Bowl, and while their defense all year has been stellar, the reason why they beat the Los Angeles Rams was due to Sam Darnold having his best performance.
Darnold had a great 2025 season with the Seahawks, and after his 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings ended in an epic collapse, the Vikings moved on from Darnold, letting Seattle land the now Super Bowl-bound QB.
But that's not the only impact of the Vikings letting Darnold walk. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Vikings have fired general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in a move that might've happened thanks to Darnold making the Super Bowl.
Vikings fire GM thanks in part to Sam Darnold making Super Bowl with Seahawks
The report from Pelissero that the Vikings fired Adofo-Mensah is some big news. Making this decision when they did is an interesting decision, as it comes nearly a month after the 2025 season came to an end for the Vikings.
There is one recent incident that might've pushed the Vikings brass over the edge to make this decision. Darnold, the QB that the GM and the front office passed up on to go with J.J. McCarthy, led his new team to the Super Bowl.
The Vikings' passing on Darnold in the offseason wasn't a major surprise, since McCarthy had yet to make a start in the NFL, and his last two games for the Vikings to close out the regular season and the Wild Card round were not ideal.
But, they still could've tried bringing him back for 2026, in case of what happened, with McCarthy not being great. The Vikings are now looking for a new QB, and seeing Darnold make the Super Bowl in the first year after being with the team is a bitter pill to swallow.
Considering the timing of the move and how great Darnold has looked in Seattle, it's hard not to see a link between the Vikings GM getting fired and Darnold's play this year.
Darnold isn't the sole reason the Vikings are moving on from Adofo-Mensah, but it's likely playing a big part in the decision.
Missing on a quarterback is a big issue in the NFL, and Adofo-Mensah letting Darnold and Daniel Jones walk might've been the end of his time in Minnesota.
