Sam Darnold could force the Seahawks into a major decision

The Seattle Seahawks are fresh off a Super Bowl win. It doesn't get any better than that. They've spent the offseason relishing in that championship win, but they're also getting ready for the future.

The team signed quarterback Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million contract back in 2025. So, he's signed through 2027, but the Seahawks didn't extend him this offseason.

Yes, Darnold just won a Super Bowl, but one NFL analyst is actually suggesting the Seahawks could move on from him after his deal expires, if they feel the need to do so.

Sam Darnold's future in Seattle could get complicated

It sounds crazy, but in a piece out on Thursday, Dan Graziano of ESPN makes quarterback predictions, including draft ideas. He suggests this is a big year for Darnold.

If Darnold has another massive season, the Seahawks could feel pressure to pay him extremely well, like an elite quarterback. But, will they want to spend all that money on him while they're trying to keep their championship-caliber roster together? That's the question.

He suggests that Seattle will have a great season, and then the Seahawks and Darnold "will have conversations about an extension next spring."

"The question will be whether Darnold wants to break the bank and get paid at the top of the market," he adds, "in which case Seattle could decide to look elsewhere, as it did when it believed Russell Wilson and Geno Smith were asking for more than they were worth."

It's wild to think about Seattle moving on from Darnold. This reporter doesn't see it happening. But, stranger things have happened in the NFL.
