Saints urged to trade for 303-yard Bills WR as Jordyn Tyson insurance

The New Orleans Saints made it their goal this offseason to build an offense around Tyler Shough, and they did just that with a series of moves.

Running back Travis Etienne Jr., offensive guard David Edwards, and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson were huge additions to improve the offense. But, they could still use more help.

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report is urging the Saints to swing a low-stakes trade with the Buffalo Bills for 303-yard wide receiver Josh Palmer to add some insurance for the Saints' first-round pick, Tyson.

Saints urged to trade for Josh Palmer from Bills

"New Orleans Saints: Trade a late 2027 pick for Bills WR Josh Palmer," Moton writes. "... New Orleans can bring him in as veteran insurance if there are concerns about rookie first-rounder Jordyn Tyson's durability."

The Saints' rookie receiver has missed some practice time this offseason already, but games aren't close to starting yet, and worrying about insurance for Tyson is probably a bit premature in mid July.

But, regardless of the intention of Palmer's addition, would he make sense as a depth piece for this offense in 2026?

Chris Olave and Tyson are the top receivers in New Orleans, with Devaughn Vele, Bryce Lance, Barion Brown, Mason Tipton, Ja'Lynn Polk, Trey Palmer, Kevin Austin Jr., Bub Means, Ronnie Bell, Brock Rechsteiner, and Jalen Moreno-Cropper behind them.

MORERams predicted to sign ex-49ers, Commanders WR Deebo Samuel

Aside from Tyson and Olave, Vele and Lance would likely be ahead of Palmer if the Saints actually traded for the Bills veteran.

But, if they could bring him in and hope for a repeat of his days with the Los Angeles Chargers, when he had 580+ yards in three straight seasons, including 581 yards on 38 receptions under Kellen Moore in 2023.

Palmer to the Saints likely won't cost much, and it's the kind of move that could add some experience depth. That's looking important, considering their current WR depth options are young players who might not be ready to take on a big role.

A trade for Palmer, like what Moton is urging, wouldn't be a bad idea. At the very least, he'd be decent veteran depth, and he could even turn into a decent option for Shough if the WR room can't stay healthy.
