Cameron Jordan is in uncharted waters.
The 15-year NFL veteran has spent his entire career with the New Orleans Saints. But for the first time in his career, that’s changing.
He and the Saints won’t have a new deal in place by next week, making him a free agent, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday.
Cameron Jordan recorded at least 10 sacks for the first time since 2021 this past season. Getty ImagesJordan has hit the 10-sack plateau seven times in his career, including 10.5 last season. Jordan has also made eight Pro Bowls and snagged one First Team All-Pro selection.
Across his career in New Orleans, he’s racked up a franchise-leading 132 sacks, 175 tackles for loss, 763 total tackles and 17 forced fumbles.
Per Schefter, Jordan will play a 16th season instead of retiring, though he is still open for another year with the Saints.
For the Saints, retaining Jordan isn’t the biggest concern because of Chase Young’s resurgence via a 10-sack 2025 campaign. Jordan’s age could also be a factor as he’ll be 37 to begin the 2026 season. However, Jordan would still be a major compliment to Young on New Orleans’ defensive line.
Cameron Jordan has been with the Saints since 2011, when he was a first-round pick. Stephen Lew-Imagn ImagesLast year, the Saints went 6-11, finishing last in the NFC South. But they showed promise, particularly from rookie quarterback Tyler Shough.
Shough finished the season with 2,384 yards and 13 total touchdowns after taking over the starting job in Week 9 against the Rams. He finished second in the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting as a result.
Meanwhile, New Orleans’ defense finished ninth in the league last year with just 299.8 yards allowed per game — a number aided by Jordan’s success.
The Saints will be tasked with coaxing him and middle linebacker Demario Davis back to Louisiana in free agency along with adding weapons around Shough for his second year.
For Jordan, it’s something he’s never experienced before.
