The New Orleans Saints’ quarterback history of the last 25 years pretty much can be written through the tale of two right shoulder injuries.

From Drew Brees to Derek Carr, two disparate legacies.

Brees, of course, is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. He brought a Super Bowl title to New Orleans.

But if not for a wonky right shoulder aligned with free agency, Brees may have ended up somewhere entirely different the New Orleans.

His injury, in part, is why the Saints gave Brees a chance when no one else would.

The rest is history.

In the end, Carr went 14-13 in 27 games as the Saints starting quarterback.

And unlike Brees, whose career got an unexpectedly historic revitalization from a shoulder injury, Carr signs off from his NFL career with his shoulder problem.

It’s the wonder of sports, how the history of the game can overlap with the present.

Sometimes, the overlap is beautiful. Others, like this one, it’s a bit more painful.

But on Saturday, you didn’t have to look long to find Saints fans on social media reminiscing about the glory days of Brees.

And sometimes, the best thing you can do is look back and remember. After all, Brees gave the Saints plenty of special memories.
