Ryan Blaney, Carson Hocevar fight after heated NASCAR incident at Bristol

At just 23 years old, Carson Hocevar has already emerged as one of NASCAR's biggest stars. The Spire Motorsports standout captured the Cup Series Rookie of the Year honors in 2024. In 2026, he notched his first Cup win, vanquishing all comers at Talladega in the spring.

For all of Hocevar's talents, he has also proven to be a contentious figure in the Cup Series garage. Known for his imposing style of driving, the Michigan native doesn't have too many allies on the track. On Saturday night, he showed why, locking horns with Team Penske star Ryan Blaney in a fight unlike few others in recent Cup Series lore.

With the race nearing its conclusion and Blaney attempting to hold onto second-place, Hocevar's No. 77 car got into Blaney's bumper. Blaney tried to make a late block. But the damage was done; Blaney's chariot twirled into the wall, condemning the Penske star to a 33rd-place finish and putting his title hopes in serious doubt,

Speaking with reporters after his premature exit, Blaney accused Hocevar of intentionally wrecking him.

"I just felt like he didn't lift, I left him plenty of room," Blaney said. "Didn't chop him, didn't run him into the fence, nothing. I easily could have. I protected the bottom, and he decided that he wanted to be there, didn't lift and wrecked me."

Hocevar went on to finish third. When he climbed out of his car, he was greeted by Blaney, who proceeded to grab him by the firesuit. Hocevar responded with venom, delivering a pair of right hooks at the former Cup Series champion.

The first strike knocked Blaney's hat off. The second saw him tumble to the ground, although a tangle helped bring about the fall.

Blaney made a late charge at the Spire standout, only to be separated by a deluge of bodies. Hocevar flipped his middle finger at Blaney for good measure.

"I mean, I wasn't trying to wreck him, it just looked like to me, I kind of run and kind of went left, and he spun, and I spun him, so, I mean there wasn't a whole lot talking," Hocevar said post-race, per Motorsport.

"I don't know what I did wrong there got a run to cross him over, looked like he spun himself, and then he wants to instigate a fight. I was gonna finish that, and it seemed like the crowd was pretty pumped up so I was going to play the audience for a second."
