The Seattle Seahawks survived a heavyweight NFC championship game against the Los Angeles Rams, in large part thanks to the contributions of Sam Darnold.
The veteran quarterback played one of the best games of his career, totaling 346 passing yards and three touchdowns in the 31-27 win. While Darnold didn't need to do much in the Divisional Round against the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle would not have made the Super Bowl without him.
Darnold will become the third Seahawks starting quarterback to play in a Super Bowl, along with Matt Hasselbeck and Russell Wilson. While Wilson's Seattle tenure ended on a sour note, he had no problem praising the Seahawks' new quarterback for his accomplishment.
Here's what Wilson said after the Seahawks' win.

Russell Wilson praises Sam Darnold
Russell Wilson was the last quarterback to take the Seahawks to the Super Bowl, but despite the breakup between the two sides, Wilson doesn't seem to have any ill will towards the organization. In fact, Wilson praised Sam Darnold for leading Seattle back to the Super Bowl after going through so much adversity.
Wilson also firmly put his support behind the Seahawks and Darnold for the Super Bowl in two weeks.
Sam Darnold’s comeback story over the past 2 years has been one of the most inspirational things to watch! Cool seeing him overcome!!! Congrats bro.
Hope you win it! 🏆
Go Hawks
Darnold has played for five teams in his eight NFL seasons and was cast aside last offseason despite leading the Minnesota Vikings to 14 wins. Darnold signed a three-year contract with the Seahawks in the offseason to be the team's starting quarterback, but many didn't believe he'd be able to lead Seattle to the final game of the season.
Now, Darnold has a chance to avenge Wilson's last Super Bowl appearance, which was a loss to the Patriots over a decade ago.
