Rupert Friend Missed His Baby’s Birth Filming Jurassic World Rebirth

Rapper Coi Leray Gives Birth, Welcomes First Baby With Trippie Redd

Rupert Friend was destined to be in a movie called Rebirth.

After all, the 43-year-old revealed he missed the delivery of his and wife Aimee Mullins’ baby girl because he was filming Jurassic World Rebirth in the U.K.

“I had flown back to New York to visit with my wife and surprise her [and] came to London the next day,” Rupert said during a June 23 appearance on Today. “[I was] hoisted up on a wire 100 feet in the air doing a stunt and the crew starts saying, ‘Get him down. Get him down.’ [I said,] ‘What’s the problem?’”

After learning that his wife was on the phone, the Homeland alum—still hanging in the air—suggested they tell her that he was “a little busy,” but the crew insisted.

“They got me down,” Rupert continued, “and my wife’s water had broken.”

Immediately, the actor—who stars alongside Jonathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali in the new Jurassic Park film—rushed to get home, but the unexpected timing led to an unfortunate outcome.

“It was a mad dash to get on the last seat on the last plane out of England to get all the way back to the States to be there for the birth, which I very sadly missed,” Rupert explained. “I saw it over FaceTime in the airport crying my eyes out with all the air hostesses thrusting champagne at me and nearly missed the flight.”

In fact, the U.K. native was nearly put in the difficult position of choosing between making his flight home or staying on the phone with his wife for the birth. And luckily he was able to be there for the Paralympian from afar.

“It was that fateful thing where it's like, ‘Do I stay on FaceTime because I need to see this, or do I get the plane so I can get there?” he shared. “Then that wonderful sound came through the airport and they said, ‘Ding dong, your flight is delayed by 20 minutes.’”

Rupert added, “That's when they said, ‘You have a baby girl.’ It was amazing.”

And given the experience, he noted, “She’s always going to be a dino-baby.”
