Manchester United’s worst season nears end but Ruben Amorim already has a clear plan for the next season.
After a painful end to the season — finishing well outside the European spots (in the bottom half of the Premier League table) and losing the Europa League final — change is not just expected at Old Trafford, it’s required.
And Amorim isn’t wasting any time identifying what needs fixing.
According to sources (via ESPN), Amorim has made one thing clear: United need more power and pace in midfield. Not just for flair or finesse — but to keep up with the demands of Premier League football.
United’s midfield has often looked slow and soft against top-flight opposition. That was on full display in the Europa League final, where Spurs had more energy and bite in key areas.
Amorim knew it was a concern before kick-off. After the match, it became a priority.
The former Sporting CP boss believes United must add athletic, mobile players who can press high, run box-to-box, and physically match any opponent. He’s not looking for passengers — he wants engines.
That’s not the only department under review. Up front, United are pushing to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha in a £62.5 million move.
They’re also eyeing Ipswich striker Liam Delap, though Chelsea are trying to muscle in on that deal.
Meanwhile, the club is reportedly planning a summer sale that might leave fans in a conundrum. Rashford, Sancho, and Antony — once seen as the face of United’s attack — are now on the chopping block.
Call it a fire sale or a fresh start, but these aren’t small moves. They’re statements.
Behind all of this is Amorim’s vision: a younger, faster, more physical squad that won’t get bullied in big games. Whether it works or not, at least there’s finally a plan.
