Royals trade prediction sends $46 million All-Star to White Sox for top 10 prospect

The Kansas City Royals are struggling to gain ground in the AL Wild Card standings.

To make matters worse, star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is dealing with right knee soreness.

Witt was not placed on the IL but has not played since last Thursday.

If the Royals decide to sell at this year's trade deadline, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer believes that right-hander Seth Lugo is a strong candidate to be moved.

One potentially interested club in Lugo's services could be the Chicago White Sox.

The 36-year-old owns a 3.69 ERA with 66 strikeouts compared to 28 walks through 15 starts in 2026.

"Lugo is signed through 2027 with a club option for 2028, which is ideal for a White Sox club that is still early in its contention cycle," Rymer wrote.

"Even if it means upgrading an AL Central rival's farm, he's worth a lesser bat like Colby Shelton (No. 9) or Javier Mogollon (No. 10)."

Shelton, a shortstop, has played 36 games at Double-A Birmingham after hitting .339 with 29 RBIs in 31 contests at High-A with the White Sox.

Mogollon is a middle infielder from Venezuela who has 20-20 potential in the Majors. The 20-year-old has stolen 22 bases in 27 attempts this season at Single-A Kannapolis.

The Royals would be trading a staple in their rotation, but it may be necessary to ensure that they acquire prospects who can help the Major League club down the road.
