Royals sign former two-way player for bullpen depth

The Kansas City Royals made a notable roster move on Tuesday, signing a former two-way prospect to a minor league deal.

Lefty Anthony Gose was assigned to Triple-A Omaha after inking a deal with the AL Central club.

He played five years in the Majors as an outfielder from 2012-16, hitting .240/.309/.348 with 12 home runs with the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers. The 35-year-old returned to the mound in 2017.

Five organizations have allowed Gose to pitch in the minors, but the Cleveland Guardians are the only club to give him a look in the big leagues. He hit 100 mph on the radar gun in his pitching debut at the Major League level.

He's totaled 31 outings out of the bullpen across three seasons, most recently throwing 4.1 innings with the Guardians in 2024.

The Royals rank 29th in bullpen ERA, but they'll likely give Gose time to showcase that he can get minor league hitters out first.
