Kansas City Royals fans boo, which Bobby Witt Jr. says they deserve

Boos rang loud in Kauffman Stadium as the Royals struggled to find a way to win. Monday night's loss gave the Royals the worst record in Major League Baseball (7-16). The New York Mets (7-15) are slightly better than the Royals and have lost 11 straight games.

Shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. spoke after the loss about the fans booing him and his teammates, with the two-time All-Star saying they “deserve” it.

The Royals as a team this season rank at the bottom of baseball in team batting average (24th, .223) and OPS (28th, .644). The pitching staff has been about the same — 24th-best team ERA (4.56) and 23rd in WHIP (1.38).

Even though Witt Jr. has hit for average (.287) and has a decent OPS (.726) he is without a home run in his 87 at-bats. His teammate, right fielder Jac Caglianone, has one home run in 67 at-bats, which won’t help the Royals win games. Witt had two home runs last April, while Caglianone hit four in Triple-A last April.

A win would get the Royals back on track and able to compete in the American League Central. Only two teams, the Cleveland Guardians (13-11) and Detroit Tigers (12-11), are above .500.
