Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are scheduled to compete in a four-man team event in December. While the current world No. 1 is enjoying his offseason, McIlroy is playing this week on the DP World Tour.

In December, ahead of the start of the new PGA Tour season, they are set to compete at a special made-for-TV event called Optum Golf Channel Games. The event is being televised on Golf Channel and USA Network, and it is scheduled to take place on December 17.

Rory McIlroy and Scheffler will lead their four-man teams at the Trump National Golf Course. The Northern Irish golfer opened up about the event. He said (via Golf Magic):

“They give players the chance to showcase their skills across unique challenges and offer fans a new way to enjoy the game in the postseason.”

Scottie Scheffler also talked about the event and said:

“The Golf Channel Games will be a great mix of skill, strategy, and pressure. This will be a brand-new way for the players and the fans to experience the game of golf.Everyone knows how competitive we are, and I think the Golf Channel Games will be an innovative competition that will engage the viewers.”

The tournament will feature a mixed fast-paced skills challenge. Players will compete in the competition involving timed driving contests, short game challenges, a timed shootout, 14-club two-player tests, and a special challenge among the team captains.

Rory McIlroy shoots a round of 68 at the DP World Tour event

Rory McIlroy is in action this week at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The tournament started with its first round on Thursday, November 6, at the Yas Links Golf Club in Abu Dhabi.

McIlroy had a decent start to his campaign and played the opening day round of 68 and was tied for 27th place. He talked about his performance in the post-round press conference and said (via ASAP Sports):

"It was okay. I felt like I gave myself a lot of chances on the back nine. Just didn't really convert. Hitting good putts. But just mostly under-reading them. Then not to birdie the last after where I was off the tee was a little disappointing. You know, that was hopefully the bad round out of the way. There's three more rounds to try to take it a bit lower."

This week, Rory McIlroy is vying for his second win of the season on the DP World Tour. He had won the American Irish Open at The K Club. Prior to this, he played at the DP World India Championship, held at the Delhi Golf Club, and finished in T26 place. On the PGA Tour, he won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am, The Players Championship, and the Masters this season.
