Rome Odunze was supposed to be one of Caleb Williams' aerial dominators throughout his career, but it has not exactly panned out that way.
As of 2025, he is a mediocre 22nd in targets at only 59, 31 of which he has caught for a measly 473 yards and five touchdowns - a stat line that makes him less productive as a supposed WR1 than even some WR2s like Rashid Shaheed (44 catches for 499 yards) and Tee Higgins (32 for 481).

As a result, his father James seemingly likes the idea of him leaving the Chicago Bears only one and a half seasons into his career. On Monday, he reposted this tweet from a fan:

The question is, which teams should covet him? Here are the five likeliest spots for him.
5 best trade destinations for Bears WR Rome Odunze
5) Pittsburgh Steelers
Green Bay Packers v Pittsburgh Steelers - Source: GettyAaron Rodgers has so far proven to be a capable game manager for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but his numbers do appear to be a far cry from what he could do in the past.
167 completions for 1,692 yards and 7 touchdowns halfway through the season is a rather low set of stats for a multiple-time MVP, comparable to those years when he went down with an injury before even playing ten games - and that has happened only thrice in his career.
As the Steelers look to preserve their AFC North lead, he needs more weapons besides DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin, and Odunze can fit the bill.
4) Miami Dolphins
NFL: OCT 12 Chargers at Dolphins - Source: GettyThe Miami Dolphins are on the brink of a massive rebuild.
General manager Chris Grier has already been ousted, and head coach Mike McDaniel might follow him out of the organization. Tyreek Hill might be released after a season-ending ACL tear, while Jaylen Waddle has already emerged as a trade candidate.
Should those two players leave, that will leave Malik Washington as the de facto WR1 for whichever quarterback a potential new regime will inherit. And at 183 yards and a touchdown on 28 grabs so far, he is not cut out to be "him". Thus, trading for Rome Odunze is a shrewd move.
3) Washington Commanders
New York Giants v Washington Commanders - Source: GettyTerry McLaurin has been as dominant as they come for the Washington Commanders, but how long can he be a viable WR1 for them?
The two-time Pro Bowler has appeared in just four games this season because of a quad injury. In the games that he did play, he has been lackluster, catching the ball just thirteen times for 203 yards and a touchdown.
Elsewhere in the air game, Deebo Samuel has emerged as a surprising leader with 367 yards on 42 grabs, while tight end Zach Ertz has been the Commanders' primary endzone threat with four touchdowns. But with both of them set to become free agents in 2026, Dan Quinn and Adam Peters need to prepare for the future, and getting Jayden Daniels' batchmate is a shrewd solution.
2) Seattle Seahawks
Houston Texans v Seattle Seahawks - NFL 2025 - Source: GettyJaxon Smith-Njigba is on pace to be the most dominant wide receiver of the 2025 season. 948 yards on 58 receptions halfway through is already a monstrous feat, and he is doing it without a proper WR2.
But that is exactly the point. There is a concerning gap between "JSN" and Cooper Kupp (293 yards on 24 catches), and certain defenses may feel confident in shutting him down, knowing that the rest of the wideout corps will not be able to support him.
Odunze can relieve those concerns right away, forcing opposing coordinators to "pick their poison", as they say.
1) Buffalo Bills
Buffalo Bills v Carolina Panthers - Source: Getty"Everybody eats, until they don't."
That is the sentiment facing the Buffalo Bills in the 2025 season. While egalitarianism is good for padding Josh Allen's regular-season stats (Dalton Kincaid has only 12 more receiving yards than Khalil Shakir at 411 vs. 399, for example), the playoffs demand more big-play moments from certain players.
Clear-cut WR1s can change the course of a game, and Odunze has the tools and mindset to be exactly what Allen has been lacking since he and Stefon Diggs parted ways after 2023.
