It's hard to imagine Bill Belichick not being chosen as a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer.

Belichick is widely recognized as the most successful head coach of the Super Bowl era, and almost everyone unanimously considers him a no-brainer.

However, there was definitely some pushback after Belichick was not selected, particularly from his former players. Former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison called out Tony Dungy live over this situation.

The Sporting News has everything you need to know about why Harrison ripped Dungy to his face.

Rodney Harrison calls out Tony Dungy for Bill Belichick vote

During an intense live broadcast, Harrison openly called out Dungy for his role in the 50-member selection committee that initially overlooked Bill Belichick for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The moment unfolded during NBC’s pregame show for Super Bowl LX. Harrison, pointing at Dungy, passionately said, "Any list that doesn't include Bill Belichick at the top is absolutely wrong, you guys got it wrong."

Harrison also highlighted Belichick’s profound influence on the game, noting that he crafted defenses tailored to counter Dungy’s high-powered offenses, and concluded that "Tom Brady wouldn't be Tom Brady without Bill Belichick."

Did Tony Dungy vote for Bill Belichick?

Dungy chose not to reveal his personal vote, citing a wish to honor the Hall of Fame's procedures. Nonetheless, he voiced frustration with the updated voting system, which combined Belichick with other senior candidates and limited voters to selecting just three of the five finalists.

There has been speculation about whether former rivals like Dungy or Bill Polian held back their votes because of past controversies like "Spygate."

Who didn't vote for Bill Belichick?

Although voting remains confidential, some information about those who opposed him has emerged. Only two of the 50 committee members have publicly confirmed they did not vote for Belichick.

Vahe Gregorian was the first to go public, explaining that his decision was not a slight against Belichick but a limited vote strategic move.

Mike Chappell referenced historical controversies, particularly the Spygate scandal, as a rationale for his decision and mentioned that he opted to vote for Patriots owner Robert Kraft instead of Belichick.
