On Thursday afternoon, the Colorado Rockies took on the Pittsburgh Pirates for the rubber match in the three-game series between the two sides. The Rockies had sent Chase Dollander to the mound, looking to have him build on his solid outing against the Philadelphia Phillies in early May, when he fanned five batters while only allowing two runs.
That outing against Philadelphia would give Dollander his third win of the season, in what has been a shaky season for the 24-year-old, posting a 3.35 ERA and a WHIP of 1.18 through his two starts, coming out of the bullpen for the majority of his appearances.
Dollander suffers an injury
Thursday’s match against the Pirates would see Dollander get off to a rough start, letting up five hits, three earned runs, and a walk in an inning’s work on the mound. It would be in the two batters into the second inning when Dollander shook his arm after walking Jared Triolo.
Rockies starter Chase Dollander is leaving this game with an injury after allowing an Endy Rodriguez double and walking Jared Triolo.
The Rockies bullpen will have to cover eight innings, already trailing 3-0. This is an opportunity the Pirates have to take advantage of.
This would prompt the 24-year-old to be removed from the match, with the root cause of his injury being right arm soreness, as reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Colin Beazley.
Colorado would opt to replace Dollander with Brennan Bernardino, who would come in for 1.1 innings of work, allowing two hits and two earned runs.
While there isn’t anything concrete on Dollander missing time, if he is to, he’d be joining the six pitchers currently on the Rockies’ injury report, as Jimmy Herget, Jeff Criswell, Ryan Feltner, McCade Brown, RJ Petit, and Pierson Ohl are all out for their respective reasons.
